You Can Lobotomize 55
You can choose to not know the answer you already have and to
wonder what a better answer might be. The most highly realized cre-
ative people do this every day. They choose to wonder. But for us mere
mortals, it’s very hard to not know what we know. For many of us it’s
virtually impossible.
And that’s where the Do-It-Yourself Lobotomy comes in.
The Do-It-Yourself Lobotomy thinking tools that comprise the
next section of this book are very valuable for helping us think cre-
atively whether or not we know the answer to our current problem.
Although these tools can and do help you find fresh answers to real
problems—creating truly new situations when you cannot find a solu-
tion in the known—they are particularly valuable when you know an
answer but are looking for a better one.
All of the tools that I have developed over the years—100 MPH
Thinking, Intergalactic Thinking, 180° Thinking, and others—are
designed to help you quickly and effortlessly let go of what you know
(i.e., lobotomize yourself) to put you in that state of wonder where
wonderful things happen.
All of these tools are ways of turning your so-called problems, those
for which you usually find tried-and-true solutions, into real problems,
the kind that cause you to stretch your imagination. These are the
types of problems that help us to be as good as we can be, problems
that lead to real accomplishment.
