capacity of 80 people. There are four computer laboratories, each with 20 computers. There are
10 research laboratories with attached offices for two graduate students each. To do the following
             calculations, first list your assumptions.
A: Determine the maximum shift FTE.
B: To get SS Credit 4.2, how many bicycles must you provide secure storage for and how
                   many showers must you provide?
C: If the proposed parking by local regulations is 75 spaces, how many of these spaces must
be designated for only carpool/vanpool to get SS Credit 4.4?
D: What might be done to obtain SS Credit 4.3?
             8. You are a consultant for a major fast food restaurant chain which plans to totally rebuild many
of its restaurants in the Columbia, S.C., area. Using the data in Table 2.E.2, calculate the LEED percent
imperviousness for an existing fast food restaurant site in the northeast section of the town. Which
option do you need to follow to go for SS Credit 6.1? Is this also eligible for an RP point? (See
             Chap. 7.)

             9. The fast food chain decides to raze and rebuild another fast food restaurant in the central part
of the city which was built similar to the design in Exercise 8, except the concrete drive-through lane
is made of pervious concrete and there is an additional 0.10 acre of wooded land on the lot. What is
the percent imperviousness of this site?
             10. You want to analyze what must be done to obtain LEED 2009 SS Credit 5.1 with the lot in
Exercise 8. How much area (if any) would need to be restored to obtain this credit, and what areas
would you suggest that you use for it? Draw a quick sketch of the site. (Use your imagination.)
             11. You want to analyze what must be done to obtain LEED 2009 SS Credit 5.1 with the lot in
Exercise 9. How much area (if any) would need to be restored to obtain this credit, and what areas
would you suggest that you use for it? Draw a quick sketch of the site. (Use your imagination.)
             12. You want to analyze what must be done to obtain LEED 2009 SS Credit 5.2 with the lot in
Exercise 8. The local code requires a minimum of 20 percent open space. Do you meet the LEED
open-space requirement with the existing layout? If not, how much additional area would need to
be dedicated to open space to obtain this credit, and what areas would you suggest that you use
for it? Draw a quick sketch of the site. (Use your imagination.)

             13. You want to analyze what must be done to obtain LEED 2009 SS Credit 5.2 with the lot in
Exercise 8. The local zoning requirements do not address open space. Do you meet the LEED open-
space requirement with the existing layout? If not, how much additional area would need to be
