                  • WE Credit 3 (WEc3): Water Use Reduction (previously referred to as Water
Use Reduction: 20% Reduction and additionally Water Use Reduction: 30%
Reduction in the earlier versions and labeled as WEc3.1 and WEc3.2)

As in Chap. 2, the submittals for each credit or prerequisite have been sectioned
into either Design Submittals and/or Construction Submittals by the USGBC. Even
though the entire LEED process encompasses all phases of a project, the prerequisites
or credits that are noted as Construction Submittal credits have major actions going
on through the construction phase which, unless documented through that time, may
not be able to be verified from preconstruction documents or the built project. All the
credits in the Water Efficiency category are listed as Design Submittal in the LEED-
NC 2.2 Reference Guide and therefore are not noted as Construction Submittals in
             Table 3.0.1.
None of the credits in the Water Efficiency category have the icon EB noted after
their title. This icon is a tool to help those who wish to proceed with the continuing
LEED-EB certification (Existing Building) after certification of LEED-NC (New
Construction or Major Renovation) is obtained. Those credits noted with this icon are
usually significantly more cost-effective to implement during the construction of the
building than later during its operation. This is also noted in Table 3.0.1. There are
many prerequisites or credits which might have variations applicable to the design or
implementation of the project related to regional conditions in the United States. All
the prerequisites and credits for which regional variations might be applicable are
noted in the LEED 2009 Reference Guide and are so listed in Table 3.0.1 for the Water
             Efficiency category.
