building occupants. Figure 2.4.1 shows an example area map which fulfills both options,
although only one is needed for the credit. Note that if a building has multiple main
entrances, the requirement may be met by meeting the minimum pedestrian distance
from any of the main entrances for either of the options as per LEED 2009.
In the case of Option 1, note that if a train station is not available, but is both planned
and funded, then this will count. If something is funded, then there is a high likelihood
that it will actually be built in the near future.
In either case, a permanent, private shuttle may also be established to the bus or
train stops to potentially qualify if the minimum distance requirements cannot be met.
Details, accessibility, and availability should be described. LEED 2009 requires that this
private shuttle operate during the most frequent commute hours and be available to the
             building occupants.

             Special Circumstances and Exemplary Performance
As noted previously, an exemplary performance (EP) point based on SSc4.1 was
approved in a Credit Ruling dated September 11, 2006 and is also applicable to LEED
2009. To obtain this additional point, there must be double the number of either rail or
bus lines within the requisite distances and there must be a combined frequency of
service such that at least 200 transit rides per day are available at these stops; a
combination of rail and bus is allowable. Transit rides available per day are not the
seats, but the number of buses or rails that stop within the requisite areas daily. For
instance, for at least 50 transit rides per day, it would be just less than half-hourly
service 24 h/day or more frequent service for less than 24 h/day. Transit schedules and
maps must be included in the LEED certification submittal. This EP point cannot be
counted toward certification in LEED 2009 if the overall transportation plan EP point
             has been applied.
If there are special circumstances for either of the options, a narrative must be
             submitted describing these circumstances.
