                           EFFECTIVENESS

So to be a player, you need to evaluate, interpret, translate, and proj-
           ect (more on projection later).

A good translator is like a good surgeon—excising unwelcome
elements with a steady hand and executing every move with
                              precision and economy.

Translation enables the metamorphosis from information to knowl-
edge. To translate effectively, you have to ask questions:

◆ What does this really mean?
           ◆ Why is this important?
◆ What should I really be saying here?
           ◆ What is the point?
           ◆ Does this add anything?
◆ Am I speaking in a language everyone can understand?
◆ Am I using examples that fi t?
           ◆ Who really cares?

If you can’t answer these questions, you are doing yourself and your
           audience a disservice.
Even worse, if you can’t answer these questions, you might resort
to the unthinkable and unload a data dump. Shame on you if
           you do.
