158 The Ultimate Palm Robot

This will bring up a program list form that shows all the programs that
HotPaw Basic found in the MemoPad. If you just installed HotPaw Basic, this
list will be empty and the message “No BASIC programs were found in the
MemoPad” will be displayed in the form. Below the form are two buttons.
When programs are listed in the form, you can select the program and use the
buttons to edit or run the selected program.

Hello, World!
Let’s start with a simple example that will show you some of the features of
HotPaw Basic. In this example, we’ll draw a form on the screen and use some
buttons to accept input from the form. For now, don’t worry about under-
standing every keyword or function in the listing. We just want to get a quick
example working. This program is short enough that you could enter it di-
rectly into a memo on your PDA. However, most of the time it will be easier to
type the memo into the Palm Desktop and then hot sync it to the PDA.
What do we want the program to do? First, it will display the phrase
“Hello, World!” on the screen. Next, it will draw a button on the screen.
