                                 Mindstorms robots, built from Legos, can be programmed to follow a line.
                               Our robot can’t do that.






















                                 Some robots can be programmed to make noise, or even talk. Our robot
                               can’t do that.


















                                 Some robots have death ray lasers that they can use to annihilate enemies
                               (as in Figure 9-1). Our robot can’t do that. (And a good thing that is, or life as
                               we know it might end.)
                                 Yes, our robot can’t do any of these things. At least, not yet. It is a relatively
                               easy matter to add different sensors and output devices to the controller (either
                               SV203 or BrainStem) of the robot. This will enable you to extend the Palm robot
                               to perform an even greater variety of behaviors than we have already seen.

                                 The SV203 controller has a total of five input ports available for use. If you
                               keep the rangers connected, that leaves two unused input ports that can be
