vicinity of the sensor system. The robustness of a new measurement system consisting
of gradiometric induction coils and AC excitation was shown by the reconstruction of
the flow in a model of a continuous caster that was modified by a strong static mag-
netic field (Ratajczak et al., 2016). CIFT could be useful, for instance, for pool-type
reactors to monitor the global flow in the pool to detect flow instabilities. In a first
numerical feasibility study, CIFT was adapted to the ESCAPE facility to monitor
the flow in the lower plenum. It turned out that the jets generated by the two pumps
and the flow into the core could be reconstructed.
3.5.4 Conclusions
A wide variety of measurement techniques have been developed in the recent years,
which allow for measuring local flow structures (UDV), local velocities (TEC-FM),
global flow structures (CIFT), and spatially resolving bubbles (UTTT). Most of the
presented sensors were already tested in sodium, lead, or LBE. Some of them can
be used for inspection and for continuous monitoring of the actual state of a liquid-
metal-cooled reactor.
