cells are slightly smaller than Plante, and more competitively priced.
They have a life of approximately 14 to 15 years against Plante life of
20 years plus. The cell still requires a separate battery room.
The tubular battery employs a rather different design of positive
plate, this consists of what can best be described as the head of a rake
(Figs. 7.6 and 7.7), the spines and the head of the rake being cast from
a suitable lead-antimony alloy. The spines are surrounded with some
form of semiporous plastic tube and the active material, lead oxide
