Additional filings and permits that are sometimes required from the local transportation
department may include:
1. Lane closing
2. Sidewalk closing
3. Pedestrian crossing relocation and/or closing
4. Bus stop relocation
5. Closing of the local transportation system entrances
6. Removal and/or relocation of parking meters
7. Removal and/or relocation of fire hydrants
8. Removal and/or relocation of traffic signage
9. Removal and/or relocation of traffic signals
Filings and permits that are sometimes required from the local fire department are:
1. Storage of flammable materials
2. Storage of metal cylinders containing flammable gases
3. Permit to burn fuels
4. Permit to store fuels
These filings and permits should be initiated early in the construction-planning phase of
the project to ensure that all required permits are obtained in a timely manner, when the
construction of the project is ready to proceed. Given that the logistics of the project will
change over time, it is important to identify when the above referenced items are required,
and filed and permitted accordingly. Permits once obtained are valid for a specified period
of time, which varies with the type of permit and particular agency involved. A permit log
should be maintained to properly administer and control the application and renewal of
all required permits, to ensure that none of the required permits expires (see Chapter 4).
In certain locales, permits will expire when the CM/GC’s insurance policy is up for
annual renewal, regardless of the timing of the normal duration of the permit itself.
MORATORIUMS
Some of the major cities in which the CM/GC will be working have a moratorium
period for things such as major parades or visits by foreign and domestic dignitaries.
