Enneagram Style Threes
Three leaders are aware that making a good deci-
sion and then implementing it will lead to success,
and that a poor decision—no matter how well exe-
cuted—inevitably results in failure.
When Threes make decisions, they usually consider the organiza-
tion’s culture, their own scope of decision-making authority, and the
context surrounding the particular issue. Although Three is the core
style of the Heart Center, Threes tend to rely more on the Head Cen-
ter than on the Heart Center when making decisions. They process
the relevant information in order to determine the most rational
choice, make their decision, and then proceed to implement it.
However, this does not mean that Threes ignore their Heart and
Gut Centers. They are likely to use the Heart Center to assess how
key individuals in the organization might respond to one option
versus another, and they are most likely to use the Body Center in
choosing how to implement a decision. Because Three leaders are
so focused on execution, they factor this into their decision mak-
ing, imagining different implementation scenarios and most often
choosing the one with the greatest probability of success. Threes
like to have a plan and to know where it will take them.
The Three’s decision-making process can be seen in this example:
