              QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF TO DETERMINE
              WHETHER YOU MIGHT BE AN ENNEAGRAM STYLE EIGHT


        1. Do I have an extremely strong exterior, one that is sometimes
           intimidating to others (intentionally or unintentionally), that
           hides a less visible but vulnerable interior?
        2. Do the four basic issues—control, justice, vulnerability, and
           revenge—apply to me?
        3. Does the Style Eight leadership paradigm fit my view of
           leadership?
        4. Did I check 10 or more items in “Areas of Strength” and “Areas
           for Development”?



        Nines


        Nines seek peace, harmony, and positive mutual
           regard and dislike conflict, tension, and ill will.

        Core focus: Is everyone being heard, including
           me?
        Common labels: Mediator, peacemaker, connector, harmonizer



        Basic Issues for Nines


        HARMONY     Nines tend to be relaxed, easygoing, and nonjudg-
        mental, and they feel most content when they sense unity and rap-
        port both between themselves and other people and within groups
        that are important to them. Most Nines appreciate the natural har-
        mony in nature, and they are also prone to merge or blend with
        other people whom they enjoy.


        CONFLICT AVOIDANCE Because Nines desire harmony so ardently,
        they shun direct conflict whenever possible. Consequently, Nines
        tend to avoid taking actions that could generate controversy—for
