In his much-discussed book, In Theory (1992), Aijaz Ahmad
accuses Said of having double standards on the European humanist
              tradition.

Said has similar double and contradictory standards on Foucault and
certain right-wing writers on whom he relies for his analysis. Said,
Ahmad writes, can "be contrary in the same text"! Finally, Ahmad
accuses Said of not being very original and relying heavily on a host
of writers without acknowledging his debt or the influence of these
              authors on his work.
