Non-Western feminism is thus grounded in histories of racism and
imperialism, the recognition of the role of the modern state in
perpetuating these and the identification of the difference, conflicts,
and contradictions internal to non-Western societies and
communities. Not surprisingly, the use of Western feminism as a
yardstick, and the representation of non-Western feminists as merely
victims, are strongly attacked by "Third World" feminists.
