Page 61 - Introducing Cultural Studies
P. 61

Again, it is not surprising that American cultural studies has
come under severe criticism, both from the British pioneers in
the field and from those - uncharitably described as puritans
                 - who would like to duplicate the formative history of cultural
studies in other parts of the world. The strongest criticism of
American cultural studies dismisses it as a generalized form
of textual analysis and free-floating theorization.
