P. 66

Australian cultural studies has sought to interrogate the whole notion
of "the national character" in film, history and literary theory by
focusing on local texts, institutions and discourses. However, while it
acknowledges that the Australian identity makes sense only when
analysed in terms of nation, and cannot be seen in terms of class or
as a subculture of Britain, it nevertheless draws its main theoretical
and analytical categories from British cultural studies.
