LEADING WITH PURPOSE

On a side note, according to two recent studies, Hillary
may live a better life and live longer as a result of her hav-
ing purpose in her life! In a study conducted by the Uni-
versity of Rochester’s Human Motivation Research
Group, people who lived with purpose exhibited more
interest, excitement, and confidence—as well as greater
persistence, creativity, and performance—than a control
group who were motivated largely by external demands
and rewards. And according to a study done by the Rush
University Medical Center, people who had a higher sense
of purpose were more likely to live longer than those who
        did not.
If we are clear about our sense of purpose, we can often
translate it into our work life and gain greater fulfillment
from our work experience. For example, I’m passionate
about helping to further the advancement of great leaders.
That’s what I really get excited about doing. As a result, I
serve on the board of an organization that promotes the
leadership potential of women who are reentering the
workforce. And I’ve been fortunate enough to build a busi-
ness that focuses on leadership development in Fortune
        500 companies.
You can also translate your passion into your role as a
leader. Let me explain what I mean by this. Here are two
common areas where a business leader’s sense of purpose
might be aligned with what he does every day:
