l The drawbacks are as follows:
– Considerable demolition.
– Requirement for adding a system of columns and beams to tolerate the
gravitational loads. In order to activate the added beams in load bearing,
application of vertical loads by hydraulic jacks may be required which
adds to the complexity of the retrofit process.
