THE QUESTION THAT CONNECTS US
The vice president of human resources for a regional health

system arrived at the airport. She was there to give the
opening speech at a community-wide meeting on health
care. She had been told that the members of the community
she was visiting did not see themselves as one community,
and that the townspeople, farmers, and indigenous tribal
members all had very different views about what health

care services were most needed and why. She wondered
how she might help them come together.
She was met and welcomed by a leader of the local
indigenous tribe. As he drove her to town, he pointed out
many beautiful natural landmarks and described their

significance. Approaching a bridge across the local river,
