82 Building a High Morale Workplace
Manager’s Checklist for Chapter 5
❏ Morale can be measured just like any other area of your
business.
❏ Conducting morale audits is critical to knowing what peo-
ple are really thinking and feeling about their work.
❏ Employee satisfaction committees are the “morale doc-
tors” of the organization and keep small problems from
growing.
❏ The top three negativity invaders are fear, dreaded per-
formance reviews, and cynical attitudes.
❏ Never assign numbers to employees as a way to rate their
performance. It’s humiliating and personalizes the person’s
weaknesses.
❏ Managers who use performance-building techniques in lieu
of traditional performance appraisal tools get better per-
formance results from their people.
❏ Planning to be spontaneous is important when anything in
the workplace can change at the drop of a hat.
❏ Managers must deliver important training to employees
ahead of time, not just in time.
❏ Cynical attitudes and sloppy workplace behaviors cost
companies billions of dollars in employee productivity and
performance.
