               noted  through  the  barrier  rim. These  biostromal  detrital  buildups  contain  as
               many as 20 levels of porosity separated by shales. Presumably the levels represent
               former  water  tables  and  the  porosity  results  from  leaching  and  solution.  This
               giant  complex  of mUltiple  reservoirs  had  reserves  of  21/2 billion  barrels  of  oil,
               90% of it in reefy buildups!
                  More common is the formation of platy-algal mud mounds across the shallow
               shelves. These have been extensively studied both in Kansas and in north central
               Texas where they are especially well developed in  Missourian strata which repre-
