AMMONIUM PICRATE
Ammonium picrate (explosive D) is manufactured by the neutralization of
a hot aqueous solution of picric acid (2,4,6-trinitrophenol) with aqueous
ammonia.
It is used in armor-piercing shells as a bursting charge. Ammonium
picrate is a salt and does not melt, so it must be loaded by compression.
