CALCIUM BROMIDE
Calcium bromide (CaBr ) and calcium iodide (CaI ) have properties simi-
2 2
lar to those of calcium chloride (CaCl ). They are prepared by the action
2
of the halogen acids (HX) on calcium oxide or calcium carbonate.
CaO + HX → CaX + H O
2 2
where X is bromine (Br) or iodine (I).
Calcium bromide and calcium iodide are sold as hexahydrates for use in
medicine and photography. Calcium fluoride (CaF ) occurs naturally as
2
fluorspar.
See Fluorine.
