154 COACH YOURSELF TO A NEW CAREER
“Life Without Regrets” List
This exercise is particularly helpful for people who feel they have
to do everything right away and overload their schedules try-
ing to get it all done this year. This pattern only leads to their
being stressed and overwhelmed and
not enjoying the things they want to
Time is the thing that do simply because they are doing too
keeps everything from much. By spreading your major goals
happening all at once and objectives out over a lifetime, you
at the same time. can relax and enjoy each stage of your
life. I have to remind myself of this as
—ANONYMOUS well. I have two little girls under the
age of five, and these are the intense
child-raising years. Soon they will be in
school, and this time will pass, never to be recouped. I have a five-
year window in which to really appreciate and enjoy them. As a
result, I’ve dropped my French lessons and plans to travel for the
time being, and instead we are focusing on more family-oriented
activities that we can all enjoy, such as camping.
List the things you want to make sure you do before you die.
(For example: see the Great Wall of China, learn to write poetry,
have children, find my soul mate, leave a legacy, grow an herb gar-
den, become masterful in my career, learn how to tango.) Jot down
whatever comes to mind here in no particular order or priority.
