12 COACH YOURSELF TO A NEW CAREER

life is clogging up the flow. Get rid of clutter both at home and at
work and I guarantee you that new things will come your way—
perhaps a new job prospect or business opportunity will come
              knocking at your door.
Anytime I want some new clients, all I have to do is start clean-
ing out my files and deleting old e-mails and, bingo, a prospect
calls or e-mails. I know it sounds like hocus-pocus, but it works.
Nature abhors a vacuum, so if you create a vacuum (lots of empty
space), you’ll be much more attractive to new things, people, and
opportunities. If you are stuck in a rut, start clearing the junk out
of your life and things will soon start to shift for you. A little tip:
if you are more pack rat than minimalist by nature, I’d highly rec-
ommend getting in a friend or a professional organizer to help—it
will go much faster and won’t be nearly so painful.

Master Every Aspect of Your Work

The key to attracting a better opportunity is to first perfect your
current job. This means that you should do your job 100 percent.
Ironic though it is, the fastest way out of
your current job is to completely mas-
I don’t want the cheese; ter it. If you can’t figure out why you
I just want to get out are stuck in a rut at work, there may
of the trap. be some aspect of the job you have not
mastered yet. Do you have an issue with
—SPANISH PROVERB a colleague or boss? Perhaps you are

in this job to learn how to deal with a
                                       micromanaging boss, a toxic colleague,
or corporate politics. If you don’t master this challenge, then even
if you get another job, you’ll soon discover that you have the same
issues—the micromanaging boss just has a different name now.
On the other hand, once you’ve mastered the job issue you’ve been
trying to hide from or deny, you will soon attract the next opportu-
nity. This usually happens very quickly. Sometimes my clients just
