Appendix A 151

                                          TASK
The students deliver their analyses of the advertisements and of their strengths and
        weaknesses to the trainer.

2 Writing and selection of application letters
The trainer starts with a selection of the personnel advertisements that gained the most
interest. Then the group is divided into a number of subgroups; for each subgroup there is
one personnel advertisement. Each member of the subgroup writes a job application letter
and adds their CV. So each subgroup consists of members applying for the same job.
Each subgroup also represents the selection committee for another subgroup. So they
also have to analyse a second personnel advertisement. Each subgroup assesses the
application letters of another subgroup and comments on these letters.

                                         TASKS
        • Members of subgroup A have to write job application letters for organization B
(subgroup B). Members of subgroup B have to write job application letters for
           organization C (subgroup C), etc.
        • Members of subgroup B compose a list of criteria for the assessment of the job
application letters of subgroup A. Members of subgroup C compose a list of criteria
for the assessment of the job application letters of subgroup B, etc.
        • Each subgroup assesses to what extent the content of the letters meets the criteria. The
students in this subgroup also have to prepare a first rank order of the different
candidates based on the scores on the criteria. They give their feedback in a plenary
session. Each member of a subgroup gives feedback to a member of another subgroup.

                             3 Selection/job application interviews

                                      PREPARATION

        • Members of the selection committee prepare their selection interviews and have to
make a scheme of subjects that have to be dealt with (see p. 43).
        • They also divide roles: who will be the leader of the interview and who will be the
           members of the committee.
        • Job applicants prepare their interview asking themselves the following questions:
Which criteria of the job can I easily meet, which less or not? What are my strengths
and weaknesses? How can I make clear that my capacities fit with the requirements of
the job? How will I present myself?

                                          TASK

Subgroups of selection committee members and job applicants deliver their preparations
        in writing to the trainer.
