About the Authors
Wright Bryan is a producer at NPR.org, National
Public Radio’s website. He previously served as
the Web news editor for NewsLink Indiana (NLI),
a multiple-platform regional news service based at
Ball State University. He was brought to Ball State
to help create a working laboratory for news con-
vergence, and thus Bryan directed the creation of
newslinkindiana.com. This entirely student-staffed
operation was honored in its first year as a 2004
Online News Association Awards finalist in the Best 213
Student Web Site category. Bryan continues to
help guide NewsLink Indiana, working as an editor,
producer, teacher, and writer.
Bryan received a bachelor’s degree in history from
Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He
worked for five years as a writer, editor, and producer at CNN.com in Atlanta, Georgia,
starting in the CNN.com newsroom before moving to the site’s special projects group.
As senior editor in charge of special projects, he directed production of “Colombia: War
without End,” which won a 2001 Online Journalism Association Award for enterprise
journalism.
John C. Dailey is an assistant professor of multime-
dia in the telecommunications department at Ball
State University. Before landing at Ball State, he
was the creative director for the University of Ken-
tucky Media Center for the Future and an assistant
professor of interactive media at Southwest Missouri
State University, in Springfield, Missouri. Prior to
his career as a college professor, he spent more than
12 years working in live television production, serv-
ing in every capacity from studio camera operator to
electronic graphics artist and on-air director.
Dailey received his bachelor’s degree in general
studies, a master’s degree in communication from
the University of Kentucky, and a Ph.D. in commu-
nication from the University of Missouri. His primary
