                          Education Degree Programs.
                              AWARENESS - AND KNOWLEDGE - BASED OBJECTIVES

                            The student will be able to demonstrate knowledge about and discuss the implica-
                          tions of
                              1.   Common relationships between health, culture, ethnicity, religion, poverty, age, gen-
                             der, and a variety of social issues.
                              2.   Differences in health status and in health care access between minority ethnic and

                               racial groups and the American majority.

                            3.   Cultural beliefs and values of different ethnic and racial groups and how these
                             cultural factors compare to personal cultural beliefs and values.
                            4.   Health beliefs, environmental factors, and other infl uences on health behavior

                             among members of different ethnic and racial groups.
                            5.   Effective and appropriate health promotion and disease prevention strategies for

                             different ethnic and racial groups.

                            6.   Knowledge, perspectives, skills, and developmental approaches needed to  become a
                             culturally competent health educator.
                            SKILLS - BASED OBJECTIVES
                          The student will be able to


                            1.   Demonstrate the ability to understand and respect the values, attitudes, and beliefs
                             of diverse ethnic and racial groups.

                            2.   Design instruments and methods that can be used to effectively assess needs among
                             clients of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds.
                            3.   Identify resources that can be used to promote health effectively in diverse ethnic

                             and racial communities.

                            4.   Design culturally appropriate health education and health promotion programs for
                               diverse ethnic and racial communities.

                            5.   Implement health education and promotion programs in ways that empower and
                               engage diverse ethnic and racial communities.

                            6.   Design instruments and methods that can be used to effectively evaluate health
                               education and promotion programs in diverse ethnic and racial communities.

                            7.   Design media and advocacy campaigns for clients of diverse ethnic and racial
                             backgrounds.
                            8.   Partner with diverse ethnic and racial communities in health promotion efforts.
