Deborah L. Wheeler teaches at the Henry M. Jackson School of
International Studies at the University of Washington, where she
is also a fellow at the Center for Internet Studies (see
<http://www.cis.washington.edu>). Her Ph.D. in Political Science
and Middle Eastern Studies (University of Chicago) reflects her
specialization in the study of media in Middle Eastern conflicts.
She received a Senior Fulbright post-Doctoral research grant to
Kuwait in 1996. In 1992 she was a MacArthur Fellow, sponsored
by the Center for the Advanced Study of Peace and International
Security at the University of Chicago. She has recently completed
a book on the Internet in Kuwait and is presently finishing a book
manuscript on media relations in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
She lives on an island in Puget Sound with her academic spouse,
and enjoys camping, gardening, and being outdoors with their
three sons.
Sun-Hee (“Sunny”) Yoon received her Ph.D. in communication
from Oregon State University, and has taught in the Department of
Communication, Sogang University (Seoul, Korea). She currently
works for the Korea Broadcasting Institute. She has published ex-
tensively in the area of CMC, including as a co-editor of Democratiz-
ing Communication: Comparative Perspectives on Information and
Power (Hampton Press) and Making up a Nation’s Mind: South Ko-
rean Communication in Transition (Ablex).
