Overview 91
Figure 8-8 demonstrates a much different example. A smaller financial services organization, well
known for excellent service and execution, really needed to understand what happened day to day.
Many graphical examples were produced and none clicked. Again, simplicity won the dayda simple
pro forma agenda for possible future meetings showed what a “day-in-the-life” would look like. (Note
that they referred to DG as IG [information governance].)
Tips for Success
Frequent vetting and consultation of the results and vision presentation will help achieve buy-in and
avoid surprises. You really want to strive for a review meeting where everyone nods and says, “Yep,
that’s what we talked about.”
Striving for an elegant message is also important because you will be repeating that message many,
many times. This should not be a point of frustration. As long as you are being asked to repeat the
message and demonstrate the vision because people want to understand the value, you have
a sustainable effort. If the repetition is requested because no one “gets it,” you need to repeat this
activity!
