More broadly, we will discuss here the extraction of
business rules locked in the silos. As is the case for reference
and master data, these rules are scatttered in hard-coded
software, in languages which are heterogenous and
incomprehensible from a business perspective. The business
auditability of this software is impossible. Similarly,
administration functions such as version management of
rules is no longer available, or too technical, and in any case
only available to IT managers. In a similar fashion to MDM,
a company can start a Business Rules Management System
(BRMS) approach in order to get certain business logics out
of the existing hard-coded software and have them
translated into a rules language before being placed in a
rules repository.
