Ten (More or Less) Shortcut Keys
for Formatting the Worksheet
s you can see in Table 26-1, Excel supports a fair number of formatting shortcut keys.
AAlthough many of these shortcut keys duplicate the functions of buttons on Excel’s
Formatting toolbar, you may find that you prefer the keyboard shortcuts for applying the
most common formatting to the cells in the data tables and lists you work with because
their use enables you to keep your hands on the keyboard and your attention focused on
the spreadsheet itself.

Ctrl+Shift+~ (tilde) Apply General number format

Ctrl+Shift+# Apply Date number format with day, month, and year, as in 15-Feb-06
Ctrl+Shift+@ Apply Time number format with hour and minute and AM/PM,
as in 12:05 PM
Ctrl+Shift+! Apply Comma number format with two decimal places
