on an open-university basis (without formally being accepted into
the degree program), which could then be applied to her master’s
degree in environmental planning, should she choose to go ahead
with the completion of the degree. After six units, she would be
asked to apply in the traditional way (with transcripts, an essay, and
letters of recommendation) to the master’s program.

sure to check with several universities—whether
local or online—to see what their policies are on
open enrollment.

If you’re looking for classes that could be applied to an advanced
degree program, look under open university, continuing education, open
enrollment, or adult education at the institution of your choice. If you’d
like to find a university or college that offers open enrollment in your
town, try a series of search strings on a good Internet search engine
like google.com or www.aol.com that include the words (whichever
are appropriate for you) open enrollment university Boston.

yields Web addresses for dozens of schools. Also, open enrollment
masters degree Chicago shows multiple offerings at universities as well
as online. You might try continuing education computer networking
Miami and find that you have several choices to investigate.

ment yields some interesting results.

As you can see, it’s important to try several
different ways of entering your search strings.
