The Accelerated Job Search
can get to the “meat” of the next few lines of your résumé right away.
Here are examples of a fearless career change objective statement:
• A position as an environmental planner
• Environmental planner
• Biotechnical sales manager
• Licensed clinical social worker
• A position as a systems analyst
If you must write a more general objective, try to at least speci-
fy the industry and the level of position you’re aiming for:
• An entry-level position in the sports management industry
• A managerial position in the food services field
• An executive position with a telecommunications start-up firm
If you’re writing your résumé to a company that already has a
written or advertised description of the job, try to use the exact
same title on your résumé as the one in the written description.
Compose a High-Impact Summary Statement
Your next tactic in swiftly capturing the reader’s attention, while at
the same time presenting almost all the information he or she
needs to evaluate your readiness for an interview, is to pack the
summary statement (which follows your objective) with an abun-
dance of relevant, specific, and attention-getting information.
Your summary statement can be read in that sensitive seven sec-
onds, and it provides the reader with a powerful first impression.
Here are some sample summary statements to use as a guide:
