control of their finances. She had a hunch that the method she dis-
covered might work.
Without any qualifications (other than managing her own
finances with this method), she put a tiny classified ad in the news-
paper that advertised a six-week class and support group for
women who wanted to become more financially stable, for which
she would be the group leader.
She charged $10 per person for six weeks and held the meet-
ings in her home. It worked! Soon she went from teaching one class
a week to three. Years later, Jennifer’s work is known around the
United States. She appeared on major talk shows and she wrote sev-
eral books. The current cost of a one-day seminar with her? $450.
Just diving in is not for everyone. It is really for people who feel
they have a knack for something and don’t want to go through an
educational process to begin to do that something for a living. The
notion to take steps forward into the unknown may emerge as just
a hunch that may not seem at all logical to an outside observer.
Following that hunch may involve taking risks
and even bearing ridicule from people who
may be concerned for your welfare but
do not share your vision.
That said, just diving in takes high levels of self-esteem; a will-
ingness to fail as well as prevail: the ability to tolerate uncertainty;
a love for improvisation or thinking on your feet; and the ability to
learn from mistakes. Jobs that absolutely require some sort of pre-
vious experience and have laws regarding certification, like regis-
tered securities trader, are not conducive to this strategy. Other
types of industries, though, like the arts, hospitality, retail, senior
services, community health and improvement services, entertain-
ment, consulting, any type of sales, public speaking, home crafts
and repairs, holistic healing, and travel are good bets if you’re
planning to Just Dive In.
You are especially valuable in the social services such as health,
welfare, and education if you speak one or more languages in addi-
tion to English, or your native tongue.
