and workstations that are equipped with storage, processing, and management
capacities. The supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) is one of
the legacy communication and metering system which is used for long years
in power networks. The SCADA systems inherit monitoring and measurement
data over sensor nodes and transmit control signals from operational centers
to transmission and distribution controllers. Installed infrastructures provide con-
venient control and monitoring capability for system operators to achieve DSM
and distributed generation management. However, the increased data volumes
and growing structure of power network require much more sophisticated and
modernized information and communication technologies (ICTs) integrating
legacy systems and cloud computing infrastructures [14].
The general architecture of IoT Big Data infrastructure is illustrated in
Fig. 8.3. The fundamental services and functions of IoT bring several challenges
for Big Data analytics. The prominent challenges are related with number and
variety of IoT based devices, operational malfunction drawbacks of devices,
data storage frequency, storage period, and privacy and security issues.
