            lap joints (shear testing) are likely influenced by the chemical composition of the surface
            (absorption and chemical bonding), whereas the mechanical interlocking predominates in
            the double cantilever beam joints (mode I testing) which causes delamination of the sub-

            strates.  This experiment shows that the geometry of force application plays an essential
            role in the mechanism of damage and the range of forces which can be tolerated by the
