Pattern pieces are placed in the direction of weft and not in the traditionally used
direction of the warp (see Fig. 14.41).
The pattern pieces are positioned to align the border pattern with certain places on
the components. On materials with a border pattern along both edges, symmetrical
components may be placed in opposing directions (see Fig. 14.42; pairs of compo-
nents, 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6). Small pattern pieces are placed on or outside the
border pattern in accordance with the design of the style and efficient fabric usage (see
Fig. 14.42; components 7 and 8).
