There are no moving parts in either the activation tank or the secondary
clarifier, which makes Tower Biology easy to maintain and reliable to
operate.
Figure 5.10 shows a Bayer injector. The Bayer injector is a two-phase
injector that utilizes the kinetic energy of the liquid with a high degree of
efficiency to disperse the gas into very fine bubbles. The injector is made
of a special plastic material, polypropylene, and is noncorrosive. Because
of its smooth and non-wettable surface, it will not become encrusted.
Because of its excellent performance, it is often used in the modernization
of old clarification basins. Usually the injectors are grouped together in clus-
ters of four units arranged in rows at the bottom of the bio-volume in such a
