Person’s Actual Use of Time
Step 4. Compare your graphs. As you contrast your ideal (Figure 10.7) and
real (Figure 10.9) use of time, consider the following questions:
■ What are the major differences between the two?
■ Are you pleased with the way you are allocating your time?
What seems right?
■ Are there discrepancies between what you believe or say is important
and the way your time is apportioned?
■ As you review your charts, ask yourself about the quality of the time that
you spend. For example, are you really attending to what you are doing,
or are you going through the motions? When are you at your best? Your
worst? What, if anything, would you change? As you concentrate on
your new leadership position, are there important elements in other
parts of your life that you are letting go? If so, can you think of ways to
remedy the imbalance?
■ Where might you add time to one activity by taking time from another?
By reflecting on your actual and ideal graphs, your view of how you bal-
ance your personal life should be getting clearer.
