                  country doesn’t mean that his performance won’t be hurt if he doesn’t
                  have the right kind of mobile device, access to information, and col-
                  laborative tools that he needs to do get the work done. He’ll need
                  those whether he’s sitting in a park, catching a concert, or sitting at
                  his breakfast table.






                      ` summAry


                  How many times have you wished for more autonomy and less mi-
                  cromanagement? How many times have you wished that you didn’t
                  have to waste time completing tasks that didn’t make the best use
                  of your skills and expertise? In this chapter we’ve discussed the two,
                  very diverse, different directions organizations can take to move their
                  workers to mobility. One stresses more control over workers and the
                  other, seemingly, gives workers total control. In reality, these aren’t
                  mutually exclusive alternatives. The answer to determining the kind
                  of environment that is best for your organization is to carefully think
                  about your own performance management system as it relates to a
                  mobile workforce, as we’ll see in Chapter 7.
