produce beyond what anyone could have imagined just a few short
years ago. The need to hire people who are technically savvy and then
to continually prepare them to perform excellently through the com-
ing changes has never been more important.
In this chapter we discussed the need to hire people with the po-
tential to be high performing mobile workers. We described three
different kinds of mobile workers—corridor, home-based, and road
warrior—and how their training profiles compared with each other.
Then we talked about the realities of training mobile workers and
how the field of play has and is changing due primarily to the evolu-
tion of technology and its application to learning. We finished with
appreciation for the demands upon training departments and also
their critical role in the future success of the mobile workers of today
and tomorrow.
