that includes employee reviews and appraisals, competency manage-
ment, skill gap evaluations, and succession.

                  Content delivery network/Content distribution network
The content delivery network (CDN), also known as the content dis-
tribution network, is an optimized network infrastructure. It includes
both storage hardware and transmission hardware that distributes re-
quested content. Generally, enterprise customers secure third-party
services to provide an “outside of the firewall” distribution plan of me-
dia and access points. Customer-facing data, which demands a faster
user experience, requires these access points, which are placed on the
CDN. The biggest users of the CDN today are those who require
large repositories of video and audio media.

In this chapter we provided a general introduction to strategies for
moving to mobility. You found your first “freemium” and access to
additional online content related to the concepts we cover in the book.
We shared why we think the time is now, not later, for you to consider
developing a mobile workforce, and some initial thoughts about what
a strategy for doing that might look like. Finally, we provided descrip-
tions of five often-used business systems that are useful for integrating
your mobile workforce solutions. In the next chapter we’ll ask you to
think about rethinking your paradigms about the workforce.
