                  distance—the communication, emotional, psychological, and social
                  distance—between you and your workers. It is about developing a
                  presence wherein people feel connected to each other, to you, and to
                  your organization no matter how many miles separate them. It is about
                  establishing your virtual you—that identity that helps people come to
                  know you more deeply. In future chapters we’ll talk about specific
                  skills and techniques that will help you to choose the right people
                  for mobile work, and how to motivate and train them, build virtual
                  teams, manage performance, and to keep up with ever-changing col-
                  laborative soft- and hardware. The underlying principle of all these
                  objectives will always be to reduce distance and to develop presence.
