            Environmental Samples

            Environmental samples, which can be broadly classified into gases, liquids and solids, vary in detail,
            and range widely in concentration of contaminants from the ppt level to the percentage level. There is
            also the possibility of contamination among samples and errors during the measuring sequence. In
            addition, contamination can occur during the analyzing process since measurement is performed for
            contaminants originally existing in the environment. Therefore, careful control is required during the
            analysis operation and regarding the use of tools and reagents. Below a brief outline of the steps in the
            procedures from sampling through to chromatography is given. For more information on individual
            operations, refer to the books referenced [1].

            The sampling methods for contaminants in gas can be generally classified into either of the following:
            the method using a liquid (the solution trapping method), the method using a solid phase
