OPA reagent (27 mg) is dissolved in 0.5 ml of ethanol, and 5 ml of 0.1 M sodium tetraborate (or 0.4 M
boric acid adjusted to pH 9.5 with NaOH) are added, followed by 20 µl of mercaptoethanol (or the
equivalent among of another thiol). The reagent is kept overnight before use, and 10 µl of
mercaptoethanol are added each week to maintain maximum yield.
An amine sample solution (50 µl) is mixed with four volumes of the OPA reagent. At a timed
