              To overcome this limitation, a methodology has been proposed to define a truly
           EFU. Because the relative performance of RA concrete greatly depends on the
           property analysed, a conservative approach was adopted in which the RA concrete
           element performs as well as, or better than, the natural RA concrete element in
           each of the fundamental properties for the design of reinforced concrete elements.
           The purpose is to gain the confidence of structural designers on the use of this new
           material. In this chapter, the methodology is applied and validated for slabs, but it
           has also been validated for beams.
