Correlations are usually developed from large datasets of measured PVT
properties. Many correlations rely on data collected from oil samples in a
particular region or basin. Others use oil samples of worldwide origin. The
correlation is usually developed by fitting a predetermined form of an equa-
tion (or more) with the measured data and calculating the equation(s) para-
meters by use of multivariable regression techniques. It is important to note
the range of applicability of each correlation, as the performance of any cor-
relation prediction is not guaranteed outside its range of applicability.
Tables 7.1 7.12 summarize the majority of the known correlations for oil
PVT properties.
The equations of many of these correlations are listed in Appendix A, Oil
Correlations Formulae. Applicability ranges for these correlations are given
in Appendix C, Oil Correlations Range of Applicability.
In the majority of the referenced literature that discusses the development
of new PVT correlations, the authors compare their new correlation(s)
