17.2.1 Fundamental Design and Operation
In IEC 61850, functions within substations are termed as follows:
“Station level” refers to the substation as a whole.
“Bay level” refers to the feeder, circuit breaker (CB) or other substation
components.
“Process level” refers to the high-voltage power system or primary equip-
ment and sensors.
This hierarchy is shown in Fig. 17.1.
