The Never-Ending Source of Engagement C221

What he never sees are raised hands, except occasionally in jest. Does
this mean employees are not getting enough recognition? We think so.
One authority on work performance has reported that for every four
accomplishments employees complete at work, only one of those ac-
        complishments is acknowledged. 1
Among the top 10 survey items that distinguished winning from
nonwinning organizations was the statement “If I contribute to the or-
ganization’s success, I know I will be recognized,” which was ranked #9
as a differentiator. As you can see in Figure 8.1, the engagement score
gap was significant. And although not ranked among the top 10 most
differentiating items, a related survey statement having to do with
feeling paid fairly for one’s contributions (Figure 8.2) also revealed an
equally significant gap between winning and nonwinning employers.
